The app is a free download, and Road Travel Pro starts with a free trial — plan real routes, get real AI briefings, and if you cancel before the trial ends you're not charged. You'll enter payment details to start it. After that it's $7.99/month, or $49.99/year — about $4.15/month. Why more than a basic weather app? Every AI briefing runs real computation over your whole route's forecast, timed to your arrival at each point along it.
Where does the weather come from? Does the AI make it up?
Forecasts come from Apple WeatherKit. The AI never predicts weather — it reads the real forecast along your route and explains it. Your trips are never used to train any model.
How is this different from other route weather apps?
Three things. Your trips are saved and synced, so you never re-enter a route you drive twice a year. Multiple stops are timed individually, not estimated from the endpoints. And instead of leaving you to read a wall of icons, an AI briefing gives you one plain-language verdict — including when to leave. Most route weather apps show you the data; this one tells you what to do about it.
Will it work for towing, RVs or trucks?
Yes — wind and severity along the route are exactly why RV drivers use it. Adjustable towing-speed ETAs are on the roadmap.
Do I need an iPhone?

What is route-based weather forecasting?

A normal weather forecast answers a question about a place: what will it be like in Denver today? A route forecast answers a question about a journey: what will it be like where I am, when I get there. Those are different questions, and for anyone driving more than a couple of hours the second one is the only one that matters.

Road Travel builds your route, works out roughly when you'll pass each point along it, then pulls the forecast for each of those points at that hour — not for right now. A 700-mile drive that starts in sunshine can end in freezing rain, and the storm you actually need to worry about is usually one that isn't over any of your cities yet when you leave.

That's most valuable when the stakes are highest: towing a trailer into a crosswind, driving a mountain pass in shoulder season, or timing a holiday drive around a front. Those are the cases where "leave two hours earlier" is worth more than any amount of radar-watching.
